Bev Shaffer - The Kindness of Friends - New Deck

The Kindness of Friends

We have some wonderful friends and their kindnesses come in the most unexpected ways!

Every few months we get our teeth cleaned…seemingly more information than you need to know, except it relates to this story. Megan is our dental hygienist and she does a wonderful job. She’s caring and thorough.

One of those times this past summer, when John was in the chair and I was sitting nearby, she and I were chatting it up about everything and the subject of our deck came up.

How has she handled her deck? Our seems to fade awfully fast….and I need to clean it and restain it before the winter sets in was the topic of a lengthy conversation about painting versus staining and more.

Near summer’s end, at another cleaning visit, Megan asked if I had worked on the deck yet.

Ugh! No…not sure where the time goes but I haven’t had the time nor figured out how to dedicate the better part of a day to work on it while juggling taking care of John.

And then the most wonderful thing happened…she told me that she and her family were going to clean and stain the deck for us. Clean it and stain it. I was SO shocked and SO happy, I cried.

After I picked out and purchased the stain…and after a cleaning visit and a staining visit (interrupted by a little annoying rain)…we now have a restored and beautiful deck and it’s one thing off my list of home maintenance “to do’s”.

We have some wonderful friends and their kindnesses come in the most unexpected ways.

    Bev
what a wonderful person Megan is! This is such a kind thing for her and her family to do but just one person doing something like this passed along to someone else may spark that person to help another person or family. These gestures have a way of growing. Have a wonderful day !
